Introducing Sparta: a Premium WordPress Theme
Thursday, December 10th, 2009
I’m excited to announce the public release of the first Premium WordPress theme produced by Maquina Studio. Behold Sparta, a simple and ultra-clean WordPress theme. Following the minimal trend in design, Sparta offers a no-nonsense and no-frills approach to theme design, inspired by the Spartans of yore. It’s a differentiated left-aligned two-column layout that makes it really easy to read and navigate. It has a Featured Post Slider using JQuery, and a topical navigation to give it a magazine style treatment. It comes in three different color styles and the versatile layout can be used for different purposes, such as an online magazine, a personal blog, or a professional blog for business. Perfect for those stylish niches like design, fashion, lifestyle, culture, and art, but will work for anything if you simply like good, clean and minimal design. Download Sparta Premium WordPress theme exclusively by signing up for the Maquina Studio newsletter in the contact page.
Business Card design featured in CardObserver.com
Monday, September 21st, 2009So this week just started off on a nice note. The first message in my inbox was a notification that Maquina Studio’s business card design is featured in CardObserver.com. Not too shabby for a clean and simple design that came about in 2 hours or so of sketching. If you’re not familiar with the design you can check it out here. CardObserver.com showcases the best designs in business cards from all over the world. A handy reference to have for a jolt of business card design inspiration.
Maquina Studio Featured in SixRevisions.com
Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009I was pleasantly surprised Monday morning when I received an email avalanche coming from my studio’s contact page. Everyone who contacted me was complimenting my site and my work. The source of this onslaught of emails was revealed when a nice guy named Sarmad indicated that Maquina Studio was featured in a blog article on a popular design destination online. SixRevisions.com is a site I visit often to feed my own hunger for design inspiration. And it just so happens that this time around the source of my inspiration was my own studio. Well, sort of. Maquina Studio is at number 9 in the list. So if you’re in need of some creative input or just plain curious go check out the post and feast your eyes on 30 samples of pure web design inspiration.
The Rise of Maquina
Tuesday, April 14th, 2009The time has finally come. Maquina Studio is officially launched.  I’ve been working like a geek on speed for most of March and April, madly coding away in my cozy little studio to make this thing happen. Most of my friends probably think I’m lost in some dense subtropical jungle in South America since I’ve been disconnected from the world for a while. (To them: I’m back guys! Mission accomplished!) As with all noble feats, obstacles abound. A couple of freelance projects attempted to derail the launch of this site. Add to this the global recession, and we have a major speed bump. But to some, this is the perfect environment to start a business. So I say there’s no better time to launch this web joint. This may sound crazy, but it may just be the voice of my inner entrepreneur going delirious. Whatever it is there’s enthusiasm and novelty in the air, and spring is finally here. Anyways, I think there’s no better time than now to start fresh.
Maquina, for the non-Spanish speaker, means machine. How does it apply to this web business? Well, I can act like Don Draper from MadMen and conjure sophisticated visions about this concept but I choose to skip the show. In the end it can mean whatever you want it to mean. Plus I like the sound of it. Doesn’t it just click and make you tingle all over? For now the only aspiration is to have this web shop running like a well oiled machine. And let’s leave it at that.
As for opening credits I have to thank my many friends and colleagues who helped along the way with their valuable input. And I can’t forget the guys from Automattic who developed Wordpress, the excellent blogging platform this baby is riding on. Many thanks to all the parties involved. In all truth I’m pretty pleased with the final design of the site, from it’s branding and colors, to it’s code structure. What do you think?
